With the money being paid and the alien having left the country as instructed, the immigration and customs will refund the money to the person who funded it. Failing to leave the country will cause the voluntary debenture to be forfeited to the immigration and customs.

Immigration bail bonds will not cost the same for every alien the immigration judge and the immigration and customs department will look at factors like the criminal, history of the alien’s family in the country and employment. If it is established that the alien is a flight risk, the amount that will be set is going to be high as well. It can take some time for the government to return the money to the person who funded it sometimes even a year or two. Posting the bail is important as it ensures that the detained person is united with family and they can discuss their case with an attorney.
